Description
Android.FakeApp.1426 is a trojan based on RustDesk application code that targets the Android operating system. This trojan provides the ability to remotely control a compromised device.
Operating routine
The trojan, a modified version of the RustDesk application, is detected by Dr.Web anti-virus as Tool.RustDesk.1.origin, with a modified name and icon. It is distributed as an APK file on fraudulent websites, which promise to help users solve their banking problems.
A device is compromised when an APK file is downloaded from a fraudulent website. Attackers posing as bank employees report suspicious activity on the victim's account and offer to install a “security” program, which is Android.FakeApp.1426. They then ask for the “verification code” displayed on the screen, which is the unique identifier of the running program. This allows the scammers to connect to the victim's device. With access to the device, they can successfully bypass all the bank's security checks and withdraw money from the account.
